Popgun Armies
The game started in the beginning of Febuary 2004. This is also
the first game I've played in online (Together with Pebble in the
sky). Sofar the game is progressing very fast witch is nice, a
few friendly neighbours, you never know what could happen.
Finished this game. As it was hosted on AH, most of the people
posted thier views on the Universe. Because the game was voted
over before it really WAS over (In my opinion) there will be different
opinions on who whould have won. Anyways, here is most of the Postings
made by some of the players.
ForceUser :
Ok, shure the Lemmings and wibblers won, congrats
guys, but what could have happened ???
I played the ETHEREALS. We (AR) started in the SW corner and Luckely had a
great neighbour (Thanx Baatezu). The race was a decent one for an AR although
a low pop grouth in the beginning was a bit bad. Also sentered(Kinda) hab also
made intercolonization abit of a pain.
I expanded agressively in the beginning, coming into contact with a VERY aggresive
player (Not shure what PRT he was) the K9 Pack. I held the HOTH cluster for
a while untill his ETHDEATHS (Blackjack cruisers) started whiping out my stations.
I countered with blackjack stations and that whiped out most of his cruisers.
He then used a big horde of Frigate beamer combined with Cruisers and I lost
the Hoth Cluster but made a promise to return and eliminate the evil K9 Pack.
At the same time in another part of the Universe, The Network and I had a bit
of dialog while I tried to speak in his native tounge and sucede rather well.
He was busy whiping out another poor AR that we tried to convince him will
be better as an ally than an enemy. It looks like I was right since he was
being whiped out later in the game.
Back to the Ethereals, things were looking bleak. Large Fleets of Frigate Beamer
hordes were targeting my next planets (Luckely more than 1 W9 jump away from
Hoth Cluster) and I had a rather big mineral shortage. I had begun constructing
my minefields just after the first attack on my Planets and so had a rather
large Minefield around LGM2 just out of scanner range of the K9 Pack (Apparently).
Then the big break came. The baatezu and Network joined in and occupied the
Pack long enough for me to get rather deadly Ultras in orbit. The pack then
Sent a desperate attempt at LGM2 but sadly 125 Frigates at W10 (Or W9) doesn't
do to well with a minefield He
lost a big deal of his frigate horde and damaged his cruisers heavily. After
that he limped back home and never sent another fleet past the Hoth Cluster.
After that I started Negotiations with the Wibblers as thay were really getting
close and I showed them some goodwill by offering some planets in my territory.
I then started taking back my Hoth Cluster that Started the Whole Pack/Etheral
war. The Bateezu were already biting into his flank and had taken a large chunk
of his planets. I then Started with my Superbugs and Mineral shortages were
nomore. I then started construction of my main fleet and has since not stopped
constructing standard BB Beamers. I had since constructed 100 Superbugs (About
300000 KT mining rate of each mineral on 100 conc planet, Asguard for example )
We are now at the present, where I control the Hoth cluster and is starting
on assaulting the remainder of the Packs Worlds.
The reason why I was so shure that me and my ally would have won was that he
was PP. And thus with my mineral capacity of about 300000 * 3 = 900 000kt a
turn he could shoot 9 100 000 packets a turn and would have bombed most of
the universe clean in a few years. Minefields are of no use against them although
we might have had some trouble once your fleets arived but they can only take
out one world at a time. With some luck (And a bit of surprise) we could have
tryd to beat the 1 and 2 position by recruiting any other race still left.
Anyways, Thats the Ethereal View of situations. We had resourses of 32K (We
had just started construction of our Deathstars so that could have increased
by 50%) We had 86 Tech lvs with the Bateezu having Nubs (Or VERY near it) and
we were ranked 4th with the Bateezu either 3rd or 5th (Not shure) As soon as
we started constructions of Nub ARMS, We could have basically made unlimited
of them and totally whiped out whomever stood in our way as we had unlimited
minerals. This is why I wanted to continue but sadly my Ally has abandoned me
and nobody wants to finish this game
Aw well... Anybody up for a rematch?
ForceUser, Ethereal Leader. 4th place.
Big Wib :
The Wibblers and Lemmings accept victory. Thanks ForceUser.
K9's are CA.
89k resources. 1st place. 72 planets. Tech 18/22/15/18/19/13. My growth curve
is still just shooting up into the beyond and was just beginning to feel the
effects of my fleets of OA's doing the rounds. With the last level of prop
just about to be acquired, my worlds would have been headed on the way to maximum
production levels in short order.
I've got colonisers and fleets of LF's above most of my worlds and they've
nearly all got max defenses and a W10 driver over them. Those warp 14 packets
tipped me off. So while you'd get a few of my outlying worlds, most could be
back in production a year later and you'd be hard pressed getting through my
minefields to kill the orbiting LF's. I reckon those mineral packets would
supplement my ship building needs nicely
I've just taken out all those Baatezu sweepers that appeared over my worlds
which seemed to be the starting move of an eventual attack on my poor little
Wibblers. With Mega Disruptor BB's in full production and loads of Doom BB's
crossing the void looking for action, they had just been assigned the task
of taking out all nearby Baatezu bases, that with gateable B17 bombers already
on standby to raze their planets would have destroyed a number of packet flinger
bases before they could do their worst.
The Network are surrounded by my my exploding minefields and have made little
progress in clearing them. With a host CC's just entering the war zone to take
out their sweepers and their inability to detect my cloaked minelayers I feel
sure they'd have remained well bogged down.
The Lemmings are making good progress in taking over Network territory and
have sufficient fleet numbers with far better weaponry to deal with the Networks
own amassing fleet. They would have been passing w23 on to me shortly with
ARM's around the corner. I'm sure that the Lemmings would have had the odd
spare fleet to help out with any campaigns against the Baatezu and Ethereals.
The main problem my race has to contend with is that all my research areas
are expensive.
As to the E's taking out the K's I'd made arrangements to steal the K's HW.
I was intending to ask first and see if it could be given up freely. If not,
well I'd have hated to see it given over to the enemy.
Slave of Seven :
Thanks for the game everyone.
Let's see... vanilla flavoured HG JoaT - finished on 56k res/30 planets/96
tech levels.
First half of the game was quiet for me - held the #1 spot for the first 50
years or so before the Wibblers economy exploded and we switched places. Early
on formed an NAP with the NetWork and an alliance with the Wibblers, and then
an NAP with the Pleh.
When the Pleh were attacked by the NetWork, I started supplying them with FF's
hoping they'd help slow down the NW's expansion, but they weren't slowed for
long. By the time the NW finished off the Pleh, I'd all but run out of planets
to colonize and my economic growth was slowing down, so I decided to take advantage
of the NW being spread a little thin and dissolved our NAP to attack them.
I was pretty confident that with the big (relatively speaking) economy and
superior weapons (at some point I concentrated soley on weapons research while
the Wibblers handled everything else) the NW wouldn't be able to produce enough
ships or well-armed enough ships to stop me. That seemed to be born out by
the way the war went.
A shame the Baatezu dropped out, but I'm by no means convinced that the Ethereal/Baatezu
alliance would have taken the game. Would
have been interesting anyway, that's for sure.
Ulysses :
Needless to say this didn't go as I hoped. Ended fifth,
25 k res and 24 planets. My habs and my bare corner held me back
a lot in a game which turned out to be pretty strictly economy
building. I had hoped for more early warfighting in this game
and if there'd been anybody else thinking that way to get together
with, maybe things would have been different. I really didn't
expect a CA and a Joat and a all expensive SD and TWO AR. Doesn't
seem like the mandatory tech setting made much difference at all.
