This is the true story of the early days of the SA Marines as I experience it, it’s my story. It tells of the early days and the men who carved it’s name with pride. Our designated mission was to convince the Navy of the need for Marines and to establish a place for them and turn both citizen force and national servicemen around to landward thinking and train them into a highly efficient force.

The need was to recognise the opportunity for a dual mission to establish an operational home and an own identity. This is our story as I lived and experienced it and of those who made it possible and the struggles to introduce a landward capability in protecting our harbours from the enemy.
